I was inspired by Katie That Bookish Girl’s blog post this week about Bookish Super Powers I wish I had. These aren’t your normal every day super powers like super strength or the ability to heal fast though- these are super powers that are hyper focused to my bookish needs. Because, why not?

Literary Valliance

What Is It? The strength and courage to try all the different genres and authors without DNF’ing the book.

Why I Want It: I’ve been sort of ‘stuck’ in my fantasy/romantasy/sci-fi/dystopian/new adult/young adult/magic realm for quite some time now, and I think I find comfort and solace in it. I feel like I can guess kind of what will happen, and it makes me giddy when my guesstimations were wrong, but also giddy when I am right. Branching into unknown territory like the literary classics, or simple romance novels scares me into thinking I could get bored easily. I do long for the moment where I’m like, “YA’LL LISTEN, I TRIED XYZ AND WOW…” in another genre, soooooo… maybe this is the year I venture out?

Steel Trap Mind

What Is It? Exactly what it sounds like.

Why I Want It: The ability to never forget what I read would come in extremely handy when writing reviews or recommending books to other people. I love using highlights and notes in my kindle for this specific purpose, but I’d love to look at a book and be like, “oooooh yaaaas, this is what you’re all about.” (Also, low key why I started reviewing books too, to help with comprehension, recollection and memorization!)

Multiliterary Synchronicity

What Is It? The ability to read more than one book at a time.

Why I Want It: I’m SO ENVIOUS of those who have more than one book on their “currently reading” lists. Like… how do you bounce back and forth between them all and still remember what in the world is happening!? (This sort of goes hand in hand with the super power above, huh?) But really, sometimes I’m still hung up on a previous book that I don’t even understand what’s happening in my current book… looool. So jealous of those who are able to just bounce back and forth.

Book Mender

What Is It? The ability to fix broken books.

Why I Want It: Well, I have a bunch of books from my youth, and my family have also been big book collectors, and to see that some books aren’t faring so well? It breaks my heart. I’d love to be able to just touch a book and rebind that baby or grow it a new cover or pages if they’re missing.

Bibliomantic Insight

What Is It? THE Book Recommender.

Why I Want It: Because, I would become THE Book Recommender that you fully trust to find the best reads – no matter what the genre or style. Hopefully though, with this blog you’ll connect with me on instagram or join my newsletter and we’ll chat all things books!

Librolocation

What Is It? The IRL google maps for libraries in my head.

Why I Want It: I mean, who wouldn’t love being able to off the cuff just tell you where your nearest library is? People nowadays need to read more anyhow- I see my kids friends, and they’re all on their phones! The power and beauty of a library is amazing anyhow- who isn’t taken aback by all that knowledge, brilliance, and amazingness in one place?

Animal Savior

What Is It? The ability to save all the animals in the books.

Why I Want It: Because I become UNDONE whenever an animal dies in a book. Do you know how destroyed I was after readying Marley and Me? Straight UNWELL FOR WEEKS. I get it, emotional evocation and not everyone can survive, but please… leave the poor animals out of it.

And lastly,

THE POWER TO RE-READ MY FAVORITE BOOKS LIKE IT’S THE FIRST TIME.

This one speaks for itself… that first time glimpse into my favorite magical realms, meeting my morally grey book boyfriends for the first time again… uggggghhhhh… snatches chest

Tell me, which one of these did you wish YOU had? Or add one or two to the list!

Jennie I absolutely love this post and thank you for the shoutout! All the superpower names you chose were so creative! 😂❤️ Personally, I really like reading a couple books at once. I’m kind of used to it because I have to for school. Usually I read a ~dignified~ classic for school and then a fun romance or fantasy novel on the side. But I probably wouldn’t read two books that have similar plots/themes at the same time!

❤ I was so inspired! And ah! That's how you do it! 2 books that aren't similar! Sooooo, in theory- I could prooooobably read a fantasy novel and a sports romance novel at the same time then. Hmmmm…

Yes! 😊 It’s not for everyone, but it works for me. Currently I’m reading 2 books for school and 1 for fun! 😂

I love all of these superpowers and yes, I would like the exact same ones. Especially the abilities to remember everything I read, juggling multiple reads simultaneously, & being THE BOOK RECOMMENDER!

I need to make a badge… or a sticker that says “THE BOOK RECOMMENDER” for when we level up. 🤣
