First of all, a round of applause for Penn Cole! What a beautifully written book!!
I just want to express as well, that Penn’s writing is one of the more captivating styles I’ve read in a bit. There’s a balance of world building and character development. There’s a sense of understanding when you go through it, and you don’t feel as though you’ve been tossed in a bottle and shaken and can’t figure out heads or tails. The story in this book is also enthralling. So many bits and bobs that had me going WHAT, and OMG. I devoured this book in a couple days (and my lost sleep is justified for it. Haha!)
I love Diem. She’s a brilliant main character to follow, her drive to do the right thing will always resonate. Plus, we love a little love triangle. I love Luther, even though he’s painted in the picture of the “villain/bad guy”- Henri can screw right off. There’s something off about the guy. I feel it in my bones.
I am intrigued to learn more of the descended/mortal relationship as I feel as though there is so much to unpack that hasn’t been touched in this book. And I’m aching to find out what in the world Auralie is doing.
The sibling relationship between Teller and Diem is another one that strikes a chord in my chest. It’s beautiful to see a sibling relationship that seems more balanced than not, where both people are trying to look out for the other with literally no agenda.
I’ve already dived headfirst into the next book, and believe this one was a beautiful introduction to the Kindred’s Curse saga.
